HOW DID YOU TWO MEET AND WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO ABOUT BEING MARRIED?
Laura and I both attended Geneva College. I played Baseball and she played softball. At a small college athletes tend to come together and support each other, during one of the events Laura caught my eye and I could not help but try to get to know her more. The only issue was I was too nervous to talk to her in person, especially alone. Finally, it took Laura talking to me at the one cafeteria on campus for us to realize the spark that we had between us. Our first date we went to Buttermilk Falls, walking trails and skipping rocks along the water. We tried to keep the conversation going because this was our first time actually holding a full conversation in person. We talked from long distance for a month and a half and we felt it was time to go on a “real” first date. Prior to the date we agreed that it would be casual and we would not kiss or hold hands on the first date. The only problem was I never thought I would fall in love with this girl while going on a two hour walk. We ended up holding hands toward the end of the day and eventually sat down by the stream and exchanged notes we wrote prior to the date. After finishing reading the notes, I couldnt help but give her a kiss in hopes that she had felt the same way. Our favorite dates are going to breakfast on a Sunday morning and attending church with watching a sporting event later in the day. We like to go to Pittsburgh to spend a day and catch a Pirate game and some dinner in the city. We both realized toward the beginning of our senior year of college that we couldnt live our lives apart. Each time we had to say goodbye was getting harder and harder. That was a clear reason that we were meant to be together so we never had to say goodbye again.
We are looking forward to seeing each other everyday and not having to be 2 hours apart throughout the week. We can come home to each other so that we never have to say goodbye anymore. We are excited to being able to take weekend get aways and explore together since we were not able to with being so far apart.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE OR MEMORABLE PART OF THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION?
Laura: Capturing the special bond we share and being able to laugh and be ourselves. Also taking nice pictures since we do not do that very frequently. Wes: Taking nice pictures together and knowing this was the next step closer to being married.
WERE YOU SURPRISED BY ANYTHING DURING THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION?
I was surprised by how much Laura was laughing and smiling at me while we were taking pictures. Laura: i was surprised how we could be by ourselves without feeling awkward in front of the camera.
My favorite thing about Wes is that he loves people and puts others before himself. Wes shows the selfless love of Christ and I know that I am always going to be taken care of by someone who is so kind.
GROOM: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOUR FUTURE SPOUSE?
My favorite thing about Laura is that she when she gets her mind set on something she is so passionate that she pursues with her whole heart. Also, she is very gentle and knows how to comfort me and keep me calm during a stressful situation. She also makes me laugh and lighten the mood in awkward and tough situations.
